Once again Mallacoota P-12 College had fantastic runners to send though to the Gippsland Championships. The team this year was Brodie Scott, Jess S-S, and Bowan Joiner. They were joined by myself and Tracy Joiner. Our students are a resilient lot, dealing with a 10 hr return drive just to run for 20 minutes. We left on Wednesday after school, ate at the always favourite Noodle box, and managed to make it to the Berry farm by 9.30pm. Predictably everyone was tired and the students hit the sac straight away. As farm life dictates, the students were up early. A relaxing farm tour was on the cards to prep the students for the challenge to come.
The team got to Lardner Park early with time to prepare. The weather this year was fantastic, not a drop of rain! The early arrival may have contributed to some nerves while the students waited, with lots of fidgeting. However the team did fantastically. Bowan ran first out of the team and came 14th out of 60 students in Gippsland. A personal best, well done! Jess ran next and came 21 out of 50 students, great work!. Brodie ran last in the U16 category. It was a great race with Brodie leading half way though. She hit the wall but kept pushing and came 4th to make it through to states. Well done Brodie.
This is the 2nd year one of our team has made it through to States. Mallacoota P-12 College is proud of our 3 expert cross country runners.
A huge thank you to Tracy Joiner who accompanied us and assisted with the driving. Without parents support these events could not run. Thank you very much. A thank you to my dad as well for hosting the students, who as always, were exceptionally well behaved. And a final thank you for the students, who put up with a longer transport time than any others, represented our school and Gippsland, you should all be proud of yourselves. See below for photos
