Kite Testing

Today we tested our kites during Huff and Puff. Neve’s kite was the most successful. She made hers out of a plastic bag.

We also did Rainbow Maths. Our rainbow tells us the two numbers that add to ten.Screen Shot 2014-08-05 at 11.45.11 AMIMG_3038 IMG_3047 IMG_3051 IMG_3052

Tuesday 5th August

Today we practised shot put with bean bags. We had to push not THROW!

We tried to finish our kites but we ran out of time to fly them.

We made ants that have three body parts, antennae and compound eyes. They also had peg mandibles.

In Maths we learnt about the Commutative Law. It means that if we know that

8 + 2 = 10 we know that 2 + 8 = 10 too. We call it a Freebie.

Monday 4th August

Today we made kites in Design and Technology. We are going to test fly them tomorrow. We know they have to be light, it has to be a windy day and the kite has to be able to catch the wind.

For Huff and Puff we did relays. We used the big ball for our last relay.

We also went to the Library and read a story on the TV.

Two Very Special Visitors

On the 4th of June there was great excitement in the Prep/One classroom with two very special visitors. Tanya, the children’s kinder teacher had come to visit with her very cute little girl, Nellie. The class were able to ask lots of questions about what Nellie has been doing.

The children were also very pleased to be able to show Tanya a lot of the work that they have been doing.

We were delighted this week to receive a special letter from Tanya and Nellie thanking us for the book that we made for them both. It even showed them both reading the book and Nellie had a very inquisitive look on her face.

We hope to see them both again very soon.

This term the Prep/One class have participated in a variety of activities for Huff ‘n’Puff. The thirty minutes sessions have been running from Wednesdays to Fridays. Some of the favourite activities of the children included the balance board, hockey, throwing, skipping and galloping. Each session would end with the 800 metre run of the Run Around Australia track.

The Prep/One class would like to thank Minna for volunteering to organise and run this program for the term. Thank you also to Ros who was there to assist each day.

Next term Huff ‘n’ Puff will continue with a different format.

R is for Rooster

Today we made colourful roosters. Rooster begins with the sound /r/. So does Rose, Ruben and Ros. Rainbow, rain, rocket and Red Rex all begin with  an /r/ sound. Please come and see our display on our classroom windows.

The Prep/Ones visited the Joiner farm in Genoa on the 7th May, 2013. This was as a part of our Science theme of Living and Non Living things. Thank you so much to Darren and Tracey for showing us around. Highlights of our day were seeing the baby calves, patting the horses and being weighed in the crush. We were all extremely excited to see, from a distance, the ripples of a platypus in the dam. We also saw an azure kingfisher sitting on a branch. Thank you also to Cate Tregellas for joining us.

A Walk in the Rain

Today we went for a walk in the  rain looking for signs and talking about Road Safety.

Rosie brought a  beautiful rag rug in for Show and Tell. Edward brought his cute little echidna which he cuddles at night.

We used the computer and practised making colourful names with capital letters.

Tomorrow is Ride to School day. We can meet other people and ride to school together.

The Week So Far

It has been so long since our last post. A lot has been happening. On Monday we had some special visitors with Roxy the Ferret and Theodore and her baby guinea pigs. Today we had some cute little dolls from Asia that just did not want to lie down.

The Grade 1s worked on their little houses today. They had to use their previous knowledge of working with and making hinges to design a tissue box house that will pass a Huff and Puff test.

Tomorrow will be going for a short Road Safety walk around the school block looking for signs and practising crossing the road.
