The Pond Skater

We got some plastic cups and marbles to see the surface tension. We looked at the pond skater. It can feel the vibrations of any creature that falls into the water. It takes the pond skater a second to skate across 1 metre of water.

We had to roll balls to our team for Huff and Puff.It also included lots of running and stopping the ball.

We were stuck inside all day because of the rain but we did get to use the computers to practise subtraction.

Things That Fly

Today we made balloons fly by using the air that comes out when we let them go. The air pushes the balloon around the room. Some of the balloons were red and white.

In Huff and Puff  we did relays but also had to throw a ball into a bucket. An underarm throw was the throw that worked best.

In Library we made kookaburra masks with Narelle and read the story Jeremy. It is about a baby kookaburra that grows up.

We made invitations for our families to come and join us for lunch on Footy Colours Day which is Friday 5th September. We will also be celebrating Father’s Day. We hope you can come in your team colours or wear something bright.

Today we had a Dress Up Day to celebrate the end of Book Week. We had a great day. Everybody in our class dressed up. Some of the book characters were Herbert Peabody, Elsa, Jack, Peter Pan, Iron Man, Little Red Riding Hood, Sleeping Beauty, Mrs Tittlemouse, Zac Power, Fancy Nancy, Spiderman, Scarface Claw, Tashi, Veruca Salt, a flamenco dancer, a witch on a broom, Minnie Mouse, a fly that went by.

The Book Fair was also on, which is many people’s favourite part of Book Week. We were able to buy books, pencils and rubbers. Mrs Fellows always buys lots of books.

Narelle put on a very special morning tea with a cake that looked like a caterpillar. There were also some prizes awarded to a boy and girl in each class that wore a costume.

Narelle looked absolutely gorgeous as a caterpillar but then, after she had a sleep, she was even more beautiful as a butterfly.

Thank you so much for all of your hard work towards making Book Week such a success Narelle and so much fun. The Prep/Ones have had a fantastic time.

Book Week

This week we are celebrating Book Week. The theme is Connect to Reading. Narelle has planned a number of great activities for us this week beginning with a Scrabble and Connect 4 Championship in the Library. When we won we got to choose from some great prizes. Thank you Narelle.

We began the day with Cohen bringing some Show and Tell. It was a very fat frog. We talked about it being an amphibian.

We decided to make our very own books and were so enthusiastic about it that we wrote for almost an hour. We talked about our favourite characters and created our own Character Jigsaw for Book Week.

Ferdinand the Bull

Ferdinand the bullThis morning Ms Mounsey did some Flamenco dancing for us in the Library but she was actually pretending to be Gigi. Mrs van der Sant performed Ferdinand the Bull as a shadow puppet play. They were both fantastic and we enjoyed sharing the Toddler’s Reading Time with them.

We also got to eat yummy Churros. Thank you Jose. They  were delicious.

This morning we measured our Resting Pulse Rate. Either we are all extremely unhealthy or some of us found it difficult to find our pulse. We then exercised to see how our pulse rate changed.

This afternoon we practised our Auskick skills with a number of different activities set up on the oval. We also got to finish the MiniBeast movie that Ocean brought in and Aya introduced us to some groovy songs on Youtube about bugs.

It has been a very exciting week. Can’t wait until Book Week next week!

The Movie

This afternoon we watched a movie that told us more about insects. It included lifecycles.

Yesterday we made mosquitoes. We made them out of foam balls, pipettes, pipe cleaners for legs and little pom poms for a head and two eyes. Darren made Mrs Fellows a mosquito that is red and white. He made Mr Cashmore  one that is blue and white.

Did you know they have a mouth like an upside down funnel? The females drink blood, males drink plant juices. Females also have a higher pitched noise.

Paper Kites

Today we made a different style of kite out of paper.

We played Dodge Ball and we used the computers to practise the two numbers that add up to ten.

We also began to design our poster for Footy Colours Day. It will be on September 5th and we are inviting as many people as possible to help celebrate with us. We are hoping to raise more money than last year for children and teenagers with cancer.

Tabloid Sports

Congratulations to all the Prep/Ones and some Grade 2s on their efforts today at our tabloid sports.

Our first event was competing in the 100m run. The starting pistol was pretty loud but we enjoyed the run and getting a ribbon.

We then got to meet the kids from Cann River and Noorinbee. Then there were a couple of Get To Know You/Warm Up games. We played Magic Beans and Busy Ants.

Then it was time to begin our tabloid activities. We balanced, jumped, hopped, skipped, threw, rolled and generally had a great time. There were smiles all round.

We enjoyed watching and cheering on the big boys at the High Jump. The bar was definitely HIGH.

On our way back to the tennis court it was great to have a go at the long jump in the big long sandpit. Thank you Mr Dunne.

Out came the parachute, as well as the big ball, which we were able to balance all the way across the tennis court on just our feet and hands. Then we finished with a game of Dodge Ball thanks to Bridie’s suggestion.

What a great day! Well done to everyone.IMG_3099 IMG_3101 IMG_3120 IMG_3127 IMG_3128 IMG_3173 IMG_3202 IMG_3208

The Fly Day

Today we wished one of our classmates a Happy Birthday for yesterday.

We spent 3rd  session at Assembly hearing all about the Year 10s week at Work Experience.

We also finished off our flies. Did you know they vomit on your food with their sponge-like mouth. Yuck, disgusting! That’s why we call them PESTS!

Tomorrow the Cann River kids are coming for our Tabloid Sports day. Good luck everybody and have fun!

Cybersmart

Today we went on the computers and tried to visit Zippep’s Astrocircus but unfortunately, we couldn’t get it to work. So instead we built a skeleton. Our Health lesson was all about our bones. The biggest bone in the human body is called the femur. Our bones help us move and stay up.

This morning for Huff and Puff we did baton races. Mrs van der Sant and Kristy also came to help. Thank you both so much.
